The BetterWorld Trust is Paul Goldring Garrett's lifelong vision of creating a world in which everyone has the opportunity to reach his or her full potential.
Our grant making and social impact investments are primarily focused upon the sectors of Child Development, Health & Environment and Economic Development.
Ultimately, we envision a world in which everyone has a sense of worth, where everyone can be the best they can be. By working together with others, we can truly make this a better world - now and for generations to come.
Paul Goldring Garrett is a Southern California native who grew up knowing a gentler California. He is a graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). During his long and varied career he has been involved in all facets of real estate and agriculture. His experience includes that of land-developer, investor, builder, broker, cattle rancher, and organic farmer.
The idea for the creation of the BetterWorld Trust came to Paul early in his career. The launch of BetterWorld in 2000 is the culmination of his lifelong dream and vision of effectively and intentionally creating a better world. It is his belief that by working together we can create a profound difference in this world and make it a better place for all of us to live.
The BetterWorld Trust is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit philanthropic organization based in Temecula, California, created in 2000 through the generosity of Paul and Diane Garrett.
BetterWorld's purpose is to channel the creative and entrepreneurial energy, which Paul has used in his businesses, into the philanthropic arena. By partnering with innovative, unique and forward-looking nonprofit organizations in our local communities and in emerging economies around the world, BetterWorld believes that as we succeed in partnering with like-minded individuals and organizations, others will join this effort - resulting in a wave-like, self-perpetuating motion that will lead to healthier lives and a better world for all.
Our Vision is of a world where all people have a sense of worth. A world in which we respect each other, accept responsibility for ourselves and look forward to a bright future together. We envision a world in which everyone has access to the opportunity, education and nourishment needed to experience a healthy and vibrant life.
Our Mission is to make this a better world every day, every way, to do good, feel good and to pass it on through our work. We partner with innovative and transformative organizations whose programs are sustainable, regenerative and which have measurable and beneficial results.
We are committed to excellence - We believe the people we serve deserve our best efforts!
We believe in people - We respect the dignity of our own team members, our organizational partners and the people they serve, and we value their contributions.
We are partners - Our wish is to be a good partner by listening well, staying true to our word, helping to deliver beneficial results, and providing exceptional support to the organizations we chose to work with.
We are dedicated to good citizenship - BetterWorld is sensitive to our citizenship responsibilities to the communities in which we live and work. We actively participate in and support our local communities.
We strive for integrity and openness - BetterWorld values trust, sincerity, honesty and candor in relationships both personally and professionally. We therefore encourage our partners and associates to freely express their ideas and opinions in an open and transparent manner for our mutual benefit.
We are a learning organization - We humbly and intentionally seek to increase our knowledge, by actively learning from and taking the counsel of others.
We are results oriented - BetterWorld strives for measurable outcomes. Our partners are important to us, and we commit the time, patience and effort needed to understand and achieve our mutual goals together.
We innovate - The future of BetterWorld is made healthier by welcoming and rewarding innovation, creativity and resourcefulness. We recognize "trial and error" as being elements of innovation and continuous improvement.
To do something means to "not" do something else - Our focus is clear, but it is also limited and thereby directed by our Mission.
We help because we can - We have been blessed with financial success and have committed these resources to help make this a better world.

Global philanthropist, community activist, businesswoman, and organizational leader are just a few of the roles currently managed by Diane Garrett. As Vice Chairperson of The BetterWorld Trust, Diane maintains an active voice in all local, national and international grant making and venture philanthropy initiatives.
Diane's core values (equality, compassion, a sense of fairness and a strong work ethic) were instilled early in her life. These values have evolved into a lifelong commitment toward progress pertaining to the survival, elevation and well-being of mankind. Her mission is to help advance the quality of life for all people and to strengthen the fabric of community. She is particularly dedicated to improving the value of education, based on her principal belief that a good education will help children enter adulthood more prepared to face the challenges and complexities of life.

Previously, Diane worked in the commercial insurance industry for 32 years, starting in Omaha, Nebraska with two Berkshire Hathaway insurance companies. Diane has served as an advisor and active Board member for multiple non-profits in Nebraska and California, most with a focus on helping women and children overcome poverty. She has also served as Chairman of a foundation working for the advancement of higher education
